DISPARATE LIKENESS

Eyes, as far apart as day from night
One mother earth, the other indomitable sea
No wonder the worlds they look at too
Are as disparate as can be!

One’s amber sun, the golden sands,
The soft ochre fields of grain
Become another's stark city lights
Glaring yellow strobes in the rain.

But eyes are just eyes, mirrors of time,
Who needs them when the soul can hear
The beating hearts that sound the same
Across nations, faiths and years...
