I love to mosey thro' the woods so deep
As birds sing songs to greet the dawn,
The glade is alive with scores of squirrels
Scurrying busily in the waking morn.
Specks of white like fairies dance
In the shafts of sunlight peeping thro'
The trees that line the winding path,
Heavy with fragrant flower, and fruit.
That providential day as I ambled along,
My heart heavy, my soul in despair,
A shiver ran up and down my spine
As I contemplate the nip in the air.
I lament the passing of summer days
The whisper of life in the breeze,
As I hear the looming winter's footsteps
In the sound of the falling leaves.
In a stroke my visions of summer I forgot!
My feet rooted to the spot to admire-
An ethereal mist o'er the ice blue pool
Stood atop the winding river of fire.......
